Here are some pics from this spring march to may. We started sea trout season 11 th of march in the middle of the ice.

Week later I decided to go pike fishing with my friend Adrian. We drove 4 hours around the arghipelaco to find small area without ice. There was about 50 meters ice free area which looked like there can be some northern pikes. We caught one better and some smaller ones. Good start for this season.IMG_1742

Then was time to go Gotland again. Trip was great as usually, but weather was not so nice this time. First two days were warm and nice, we caught many sea trout, but then wind turned to north wind and it became very cold. Trouts closed they mouths and fishing was very hard.

After Gotland it was time to pike fishing again. My friend Eugen from Norway came here on Easter time. We met last autumn in Russia Expedition Taimen trip and I promised that in here Finland he can beat his Northern Pike record easily. As usual and also this time we could not choose the weather. It was really cold after warm days and pike fishing was really hard. Luckily, Eugen caught some great fish.

Weather was very difficult during the whole spring, but we still had some nice pike fishing.

At may I had my special day. I caught 5,1kg zander with chartreuse/yellow tinsel fly. I casted A bench that drops 4 from meter to something between 6-10 meter (I’m not sure, because I didn’t have fish finder) and stripped sink 4 fly line very slowly.

Then was time to fish Asp. On first day I was fishing with my friend Sami. We both caught 2 asps. Sami caught one 5kg asp and one small one and I caught 2 over 4kg fish. Couple days later I caught 3 fish more. 77cm, 79cm and one smaller.

We climbed up the hills at a height of 800 meters and carried 30-36 kg heavy backpacks over 20 kilometers and we crossed several rivers to get to destination. Sweating and freezing alternately.

The weather was really challenging. While we were trekking the storm started and we lost the path! It took 14 hours to walk to destination from car and when we found nice camping place it was very challenging to set up tents. I have never experienced that kind of a storm in tundra before.

We woke up in the afternoon and weather had changed. First evening and night were totally perfect for fishing.

Next day weather changed totally again. It started to rain and wind very hard. On three days of eleven we didn’t left the tent at all. Temperature rotated between 3 and 5 degrees, a couple of days were up almost to 15 degrees. But still it was all worth it. Through hard work, we caught some great fish!

We spent one week in Gotland. On this trip we had almost the same group than last year. Juuso and Pieta came on our car. Antti and Veera joined the group on halfway of the trip with their own car. My wife Hanna had to fly back to Finland a couple of days before the others.

This year we decided to travel to Gotland one month earlier than last year and it was a good decision. Last year the water was too warm and fishes were too far away from the coastline. This year we had nice weather in the beginning of the week. We caught many fishes and also some good sized. But after that Hanna flied back home the weather changed and fishing was bad. Hanna is our lucky fisher woman 😉

But anyway, the trip was awesome and everybody caught fishes. Best thing was that Antti and Veera both caugth their first seatrouts ever. Antti’s first one was 72cm and third 68cm. Not bad for seatrout rookie!

Hardy's new Zephrus SWS #7 9' rod

I had also some new stuff with me. New Hardy Zephrus SWS #7 9′ was a really great rod. I have used Hardy Wrait #7 9′ before this trip and it is very fast and light to use, but I have some problems with my arms and fast action rods are not good for me when I have to cast long day. The New Zephrus SWS suprised me with a lighter sling weight and throwing properties. It is also very good rod for long casting and big flies but the best thing is that it is so comfortable to use. Wrait is also good for long casting, but it’s so fast that I’m going to use it only for very bad weather from now on.

With Zephrus SWS I’m using Guideline Coastal Slow Inter fly line and with Wrait #7 I’m using new Rio InTouch Outbound Short S1 and Intermediate lines. Coastal Slow Inter is very good and smooth line for long casting and the sink rate is only 1,25 cm/sec. Outbound short is heavy and agressive line for fast action rods and bad weather. Outbound’s Intermediate running line sink rate is 3,80cm/sec and tip 5cm/sec. (I have calculated this from inches). Sinking line cuts through the wind and waves, because it is thinner and heavier.

Seatrout fly fishing trip with Saaristomeren Perhokalastajat 13.-15.11.2015

I read from the facebook that there has been very good pike fishing around the archipelago during the weekend

But when I did go fishing the fish were eating very carefully! I saw a couple of big ones that only followed the fly. Fishing was very hard, but one big can save the day!

Pictures taken by selftimer.

Day off with northern pikes 15.10.2015

Last thursday we decided to go fly fishing for northern pikes. Weather was totally wrong for that, but we didnt get depressed. Sky was clear and there was no wind. Finally in the afternoon it started to wind a little bit and then fishes activated.

Autumn’s first fly fishing trip to archipelago with Hanna.

First we were fishing in the middle of the bay, but found just little ones. First good size pike was near to the reeds. We caught some good size pike and Hanna got her bersonal best pike.

This time of year is very excellent pike fishing time becouse the fish are very powerful.
